Things that were really fucking cool about my internship
When I wasn’t spending time doing kick ass things with my boyfriend this summer, I was usually complaining about how hard my job was.
What a pathetic, soft-handed world we live in when people like me complain about how hard it is to post pictures on Facebook and dick around making simple graphic designs on Photoshop.
So now I’m going to stop whining and tell you about the parts of my internship that were really fucking cool:
- Helping coordinate the Labs program for Chicago Ideas Week.
- Receiving a document personally written by Onion CEO Steve Hannah, containing a hilarious description of his company.
- Visiting kick ass restaurants in River North, taking pictures of food and, more often than not, taking it home with me after the photo shoot. (This project was my personal idea…tell me I am not a genius…)
- Seeing ads I designed up on The Reader homepage, among many other print and online publications.
- Working the easiest and most lucrative bar tending shift of my life at Taste of River North - making approximately $100/hour. (Be jealous for a second, but then remember I worked for free the rest of summer and be content with the fact that your savings account is in much better shape than mine.)
- Riding way up above the Wrigleyville Block Party on some sort of elevated platform thingy.
- Going backstage at a Ra Ra Riot concert. (Honesty time: I don’t really care about Ra Ra Riot, but I felt way cool about my all access wristband.)
- Personal expense reports.
- Being offered not one but two - TWO! - temp jobs after my internship is done. (Does two temp jobs equal one full time job?)
Not too shabby, huh?
